Katarina Wit started skating when she was five. She was only five when her talent became evident, and at the age of Karl-Marx-Stadt she enrolled in a school specifically for kids with athletic abilities. This is where she met the teacher Jutta M ller. Witt made her breakthrough in the year 1982 when she placed second in her first World Championships at Copenhagen. Following that, she started dominating the sport with her elegance and grace. Olympic success In Sarajevo, at the Sarajevo Winter Games in 1984, Katarina won the gold medal in figure skating for women following a heatedly-contested competition. In a tighter competition afterward, she was awarded her gold medal. While she was unable to win the free-skating competition, the gold was awarded for her performance on the compulsory figures as well as the program in short form. Witt is the first figure skater female who has won the same event twice after Sonja Heine. Hall of Fame Witt was allowed to resume skating after her success in the film industry as an actress. She competed in Lillehammer Winter Games, 1994. Although she didn't get a medal, she delighted her fans despite coming in seventh. Witt's admission into the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame was held in 1995.
